Teaching jobs are not necessarily unique to schools, colleges and universities, for instance a swimming instructor or football coach is still a teacher but may work in a sports centre rather than a school, educational posts are not necessarily headmaster/mistress or deputy heads but jobs within the local education department so therefore teaching jobs and educational posts are varied and depending on your field of expertise will determine where you start your job search.

Nursery and primary school teachers teach a varied curriculum, the area of expertise is in teaching young children, although the teachers may be qualified in a particular subject as well as qualified to teach very young children. Teachers in secondary schools tend to specialise in a particular subject such as English or Science this also applies to colleges and universities, vocational training such as engineering and catering requires teachers to have studied or worked in this field as well as being qualified to teach, local education authorities are responsible for ensuring that the needs of the pupils and students are met, particularly with special needs education.

Teaching jobs in schools, colleges, and universities are quite often filled before the position gets advertised, many use recruiting agencies that specialise in educational posts and have a register of qualified teachers as well as other professionals who are looking for educational jobs, in particular teaching jobs, many unemployed teachers become supply teachers whilst continuing a job search for a permanent position, in some cases a supply teacher can be offered a permanent position after having worked at a school for any length of time should a vacancy arise, equally a teacher who has many years of experience may be looking for educational posts within the local department for education or may wish to be considered for an educational post such as headmaster/mistress.

Educational posts are often advertised in local and national newspapers, the internet is a good place to begin a job search, and there are dedicated websites advertising educational jobs in the UK, local authorities who have their own website and many of them do, tend to advertise educational jobs and teaching jobs that are available within the schools, colleges, sports centres and education departments for that particular district.

Potential applicants for teaching jobs should prepare their Curriculum Vitae (CV) listing all the educational posts and teaching jobs they have held, it is advisable to send a copy of the CV with a letter to any educational institutes in the location applicants wish to work.

International teaching jobs are often advertised on the internet and can occasionally be found in the national press, educational jobs abroad often involve teaching English as a Language or teaching a particular subject at a school that is dedicated to teaching English children who live abroad. Educational jobs may also be available in under privileged countries where the education system is poor and relies on qualified teaching staff from other countries to educate both adults and children.
